Year 10 and Year 12 students have been busy following the Employer Project launch. I would like to take the chance to thank Midland Metro Alliance and Juniper Networking for offering these fantastic opportunities to our students. The Juniper project is based on the design of a SMART toy which allows interaction between devices whilst avoiding the possibility of being hacked. Midland Metro have again worked alongside our young people to design an extended Metro line into the city centre.

We have recently made contact with some of our Alumni to track their journeys into the world of work. It was pleasing to hear our ex-students being so complimentary of their time with us…

“The past two years have been the most beneficial years of my life. I would highly recommend West Midlands UTC to anyone and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunities they offered me to allow me to be where I am today”

Ben Harris Construction Trainee, Overbury PLC, 2018 leaver

“The UTC has always been very supportive and helpful when it came to choosing my career path, one of the ways they helped me was by supplying me with a mentor from within the industry who advised me on what I needed to do to become a Civil Engineer”

Jacob Reynolds Civil Engineer, RMD Kwikform, 2018 leaver

We were proud to be invited to the Mayor of Wolverhampton’s Tea Party. This was in recognition of the funds our students at the UTC helped raise towards the Mayor’s Charities. Laura and Claire took along Dereece and Claudia who enjoyed the tea, cakes and sandwiches on offer.

A number of our Year 13’s attended a RIBA West Midlands Earn it Learn it series of lectures at Wolverhampton University – It was about professional development and industry engagement for students as part of their continuous professional development, and have now all been awarded an Excellence in Education Award. Students have had the opportunity to meet with Architectural professionals to develop some key contacts for future collaborations and take important advice on their next important steps.

The exams are now well under way. I must say that both Year 11 and 13 student’s look fully focused with a determination to hit their goals. Again I would like to thank our dedicated staff who have given up time over half-term to put on extra revision sessions which many of our students have taken full advantage of. I would encourage students to keep on giving their best to the very last exam –you will be rewarded on results day and have a very long lazy summer to look forward to.
